An advocate is someone who will help you to express yourself and explain your thoughts / feelings and help you look after your rights in situations where you may need support or are having diffuclty explaining yourself.

They help you to get your voice heard and to make the right decisions and choices.

Some examples of situations where an advocate maybe able to help you are:

  • Support you to change where you live
  • Help when you go to see the doctor or hospital
  • At meetings to make sure you understand what is being said and make sure you are happy with decisions
  • To help talk to your family and explain your feelings to them
  • Help with the services that you are getting
  • To help you make a complaint when you are not happy.
